Side Show

Still from the video “Side Show”

Side Show was a sculpture and video about personal reclamation. Street games, magic, and “the con” inspired the form and content. I collected 200 found hotel keys, ground off all of the teeth and ends and cleaned the edges of each one with brass polish. I then attached a price tag to each one using flash string and flash cotton, products from the world of magic that burn instantly without ash. The video documented the set up of the game and the final separation of the price tags from the unusable keys in a final flash of flame.
